How To Make Our Valentine’s Sugar Cookies Recipe:

Sugar Cookie Instructions:

Begin by whisking together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt together in a large mixing bowl and then set it aside.

Then in another large bowl beat together the butter and sugar on medium speed until they become light and creamy.

Valentine Sugar Cookies Recipe (4)

Next add in the eggs one at a time and beat it all together until they are well combined.

Now add the vanilla extract and sour cream, and beat it together on low speed until it is well combined.

Valentine Sugar Cookies Recipe (5)

Then add in the dry ingredients. The perfect way of doing this is to set aside a little at a time on slow speed until they are just combined.

The dough will be a little sticky, so that is when you will throw the dough in the fridge for it to chill for 2 or more hours.

While the dough is chilling, preheat the oven to 425 degrees and then line the baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.

Valentine Sugar Cookies Recipe (6)

Once the dough is done chilling, lightly flour your counter and sprinkle a little bit on top of the dough and then roll it out with a rolling pin until it is about ¼ of an inch thick.

Valentine Sugar Cookies Recipe (7)

Then use your cookie cutters to cut the dough to the desired shape. Heart-shaped cookie cutters are preferable if you’re going for the heart shape. Proceed and place your valentine cookies on the baking sheet.

Valentine Sugar Cookies Recipe (8)

After the cookie sheet is full, place it in the oven for 7-9 minutes or until the cookies are slightly golden around the edges.

Valentine Sugar Cookies Recipe (9)

Pull the freshly baked cookies from the oven, and immediately move them to the cooling rack. Let them cool completely.

Buttercream Frosting:

While the cookies are cooling down, cream together the butter and vanilla extract.

Then gradually add in the powdered sugar and a pinch of salt and beat it together until it is smooth and creamy.

Once that is all mixed together, add in the heavy cream and continue mixing it on medium-high speed for 1-2 minutes until the frosting is light and fluffy.

Valentine Sugar Cookies Recipe (10)

Then divide the frosting up based on how many different shades you want to do for frosting and then mix in the food coloring.

Valentine Sugar Cookies Recipe (11)

Once the cookies have cooled down, use a piping bag or a butter knife to frost them to your liking. Whether it’s polka dots, diagonal lines, or a classic frosting technique, let your creativity flow. Serve and enjoy!

  1. Large mixing bowl (2)
  2. Medium mixing bowl
  3. Baking sheets (THESE are good!)
  4. Hand mixer or stand mixer

What to do When You Don’t Have Heavy Cream

I often have heavy cream somewhere in my fridge, but sometimes when I reach for it expired so then I have to think on my feet about what to use instead.

Is 6 cups the correct amount of flour? Seems like way too much flour.

  2. Jacqueline says:

The santa sugar cookie recipe is exact same recipe except there it calls for 4 cups flour - so which recipe is the correct one?

  3. Cyd says:

The two recipes are very different. Santa sugar cookies have 1/2 cup sour cream. The valentine cookies have 1 1/2 cups sour cream. Many other ingredient amounts are totally different. I guess it depends on how many cookies you need. If you need more, go with the recipe with the larger amounts.
